PGDB-licensed water main and water line repair, replacement and new connections across Hamilton and the wider Waikato. Fast response to burst supply lines and pressure problems.
The water supply line that runs from the council toby valve at your boundary into your house is one of the most important — and most ignored — pipes on your property. When it fails, you notice fast: pressure drops, your water bill spikes, the lawn near the front gate gets soggy, and worst case, water starts undermining a driveway or foundation.
Plumbway Ltd carries out the full range of water main and supply line work across Hamilton and the wider Waikato — from quick localised repairs through to complete supply line replacement, new connections for rural and lifestyle properties, and leak detection on hard-to-find faults. Every job is done by a licensed plumber registered with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB).

Underground supply line leaks are sneaky — by the time you notice, you may have been losing water for weeks. Watch for:
If you’re seeing any of these, give us a call. We’ll diagnose the issue quickly using leak detection equipment rather than digging up your whole yard.
Emergency response to burst or cracked supply lines — we shut off, isolate the damaged section, repair or replace, and restore supply as fast as possible.
When the existing line is past saving — usually old galvanised, polyethylene, or copper that’s failed in multiple places — we replace the entire run from toby to house in modern MDPE.
Acoustic and pressure-based leak detection to locate the exact point of failure on an underground supply line — avoiding the cost and disruption of speculative excavation.
Installation of new water supply lines for new builds, subdivisions and rural/lifestyle properties — including coordination with council for new toby installations.
Diagnosis and repair of low water pressure problems — often caused by a partial blockage, undersized supply line, or a slowly failing pressure reduction valve.
Pressure-fed rainwater tank connections, bore water systems and long supply runs across rural Waikato properties not on the council network.

We work on water mains and supply lines across Hamilton City and the wider Waikato — including Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Huntly, Ngaruawahia, Morrinsville, Matamata and Raglan.
For urgent burst water main repairs, we offer 24/7 emergency plumbing response. Don’t leave a leaking supply line — even a slow leak can do thousands of dollars of damage over weeks or months.
Call 022 453 5783The water main is the council-owned pipe running along the street. The water line (or supply line, lateral) is the pipe that runs from the council main at your boundary toby valve into your property, supplying your house. Council is responsible for the main itself; you, the property owner, are responsible for the supply line from the toby onwards. We work on the property owner's side — the water line.
Common signs include: a sudden drop in water pressure, unusually high water bills with no change in usage, wet or boggy patches in your front yard or driveway, the sound of running water when no taps are on, and discoloured water from the taps. If your water meter is spinning when no water is being used inside, that's a strong indicator of a supply-line leak.
We repair the privately-owned supply line from the toby valve at your boundary onwards. The council main (in the street) is the responsibility of Hamilton City Council or your relevant Waikato district council, and is repaired by their contractors. If the leak is on the council side of the toby, we'll help you contact the right council team to action the repair.
Yes. Any work on the pressurised water supply system in New Zealand has to be carried out by a licensed plumber registered with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB). It's not work to DIY — apart from being illegal for hire-or-reward jobs, getting it wrong can cause serious water damage, void your insurance, and create compliance problems if you ever sell the property.
A standard residential supply line replacement is usually a one or two day job — depending on the length of the run, whether trenching is required, whether the line goes under a driveway or concrete, and whether the council needs to attend for the toby connection. For most Hamilton properties we can complete the work and restore water supply the same day. We provide a fixed quote upfront so you know what to expect.
